Foster Opportunities

Animal Justice League is always looking for great fosters; we never know when an urgent need will arise! If you are either new to fostering or just haven't fostered for AJL before, please fill out the Foster Application.

What is fostering?

When you foster, you agree to take a homeless cat or dog into your home and give him or her love, care and attention, either for a predetermined period of time or until the animal is adopted.

Types of fostering:

  • Long Term – willing to provide long term foster care until the animal is adopted
  • Short Term or Temporary – could be a weekend, a week, or while the dog transitions from one place to another
  • Medical – for an animal requiring medical care outside of normal medications. Previous foster experience is preferred, but not required
  • Emergency – when animal is pulled directly from the street, it will immediately need a safe, quiet place to decompress. This could be 24/48 hours while a permanent foster is found.

Why do we need fosters?

There are many reasons a dog or cat might need foster care. Some of the most common include:

  • Animal Justice League is a rescue group, therefore, we don’t have a physical shelter and we depend on foster homes to care for the animals until suitable homes are found.
  • A puppy or kitten is too young to be adopted and needs a safe place to stay until he or she is old enough to go to a forever home.
  • A dog or cat is recovering from surgery, illness or injury and needs a safe place to recuperate.
  • A dog has not lived in a home before or has not had much contact with people and needs to be socialized.

Why should I foster?

Fostering a dog or cat is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have (other than adopting, of course). These are just some of the benefits of taking an animal in need temporarily into your home:

  • COMFORT: In a home, you can help build an animal’s confidence and get them accustomed to a normal home life.
  • VET BILLS ARE PAID: Vet bills are paid for by Animal Justice League. If you can afford to, or would like to donate to their care, please consider doing so.
  • SAVE SPACE AT THE SHELTERS: For every animal in a foster home, another space at the shelter opens up for an animal in need.
  • SHORT TERM OWNERSHIP: It can be a great way to benefit from having a companion for those who cannot commit permanently. Plus, if you’re thinking about getting a pet, it’s a great way to test the waters.
  • SAVE A LIFE & HELP AN ANIMAL GET ADOPTED: An animal’s true personality, such as strengths and fears, good with kids or other animals, emerges in a home versus a shelter. Knowing the background can help us and the foster better match the animal with the perfect home or family.

There’s many more reasons why fostering could be right for you, we just listed a few above. If you’re interested in fostering, please fill out the foster application. If you have any questions, please contact us and we'll get back to you!
