Hi there, Avery is my name! I am a 3-year-old velvet hippo and I’m looking for my furever home. Hopefully it’s with you! My life prior to being rescued wasn’t all that comfy and wonderful. I was doomed to a lonely life in a backyard with the sole purpose of making puppies. Unfortunately, I wasn’t taken very good care of and I am heartworm positive, but my foster mom says we’re getting me healthy again. Life as an inside dog is new and kind of scary, but you’d be proud of me. I’m already used to the sounds of the vacuum, microwave and closing curtains. They used to scare me, but not anymore! My foster mom says I have exceptional manners. I’m fully housebroken, crate trained and on top of my leashed-walk game. I’m pretty shy, very curious, and super submissive. I’m quite the mellow girl but I do have my happy moments and do zoomies with a tail wag faster than the wind. I have already learned about belly rubs, too. Guys…I can’t believe I’ve been missing out on belly rubs all of my life. It took my foster mom a little coaxing to get me comfortable enough to enjoy them but I’m so happy she did. I’m allowed to roam the house freely but I prefer spending my time on my very own bed, cuddled up in blankets. I don’t venture out too much just yet. I do occasionally check up on everyone, give some kisses and then I hurry back to my bed. I never had a bed before.! It’s such a lovely treat! I haven’t met any kids or kitties yet, so I’m not sure if I like them, but I’m living with another foster dog now and she has been wonderful at coaxing me out of my shell. She’s been helping me to relax by showing me how to be a dog. She brings me toys sometimes, but I’m not quite sure what to do with them yet. I really like that she has been very gentle and patient with me. I enjoy being loved and I have a whole lot of love to give in return. I’m hoping you are my furever family and will help me become a happy, spoiled rotten velvet hippo. A loved family member at last!
